Your parents!
Everyone's got the best parents in the world, right? Of course we do! But mine are the best. Really, they are!
Meet Dave and Denise.
(4th of July 2010. I'm on the left with my parents dog, Parker and my sister is on the right with her dog, Chico.)
They met in Washington State when Denise was 20 and Dave was 24. Denise had just moved out there from Iowa for work and Dave was a former hippie from Missouri that had traveled across the US hitchhiking and ended up in Washington working for the railroad.
After that, I really don't know! I just know that I came along! :)
My mom is one of my best friends and she's one of the first people I go to when I need something. There is very little I am uncomfortable talking with my mom about. We have that kind of relationship and I am so grateful for it.
My dad always says he's a free spirit and that I am too. Hello! He was a bona fide hippie. Long hair and no shoes all the time. Well, in the 60s at least. His hair is short now. :) Today he is who I go to when I feel the need to spread my wings. He is always encouraging me to travel, pursue more education and push myself beyond my limits. Can't is a word that is not in his vocabulary and I truly think this man thinks he can do anything. It is very inspiring!
What are your parents like? Are you closer to you mom or dad?

My parents were high school sweethearts. They started dating when they were 15-16 I think and besides a couple of break ups when they went to college, they have always been together. They celebrated 40 years of marriage last December and have a wonderful marriage. They are not perfect, of course, but they are still the best of friends, are still in love, and run a company together which I find to be impressive. I could never work with my spouse!
I am close to my parents, but I don't have that 'best friend' relationship with my mom like others might have? I would say my 2 sisters are closer to my mom and share more with her than I do, but they don't have as many close girlfriends as I do, so I think they depend more on her? Plus there are certain things I don't talk to my mom about - like if I get into an argument or a fight w/ a boyfriend, I don't tell her because I feel like she'll never forget it and it might forever color her impression of the guy I am dating, if that makes any sense?
But in general, I would say I am very close to my parents and have a healthy relationship w/ them. I have a different sort of relationship with my dad since we dont' talk on the phone or bbm. Instead, we re-connect when we see each other by doign thigns like playing cribbage together.
I am loving these daily posts. :)
They sound so cool!
Awesome post! Love that photo of you with your parents!
My parents separated (but didn't divorce) when I was 10. They managed to make the rest of my teenage years very normal by still celebrating christmases and taking holidays all together as a family! Now that I'm older I see that they sacrificed a lot for us growing up because they really aren't each others favourite people...
But, I feel I am close with them both. I was at a point for a couple years where I had that "best friend" relationship with my mom but as I get older I don't talk to her quite as much. She's definitely the person that I go to if I need advice though!
Aw, they sound great! My parents are pretty great, too :) Things aren't as smooth sailing right now as they usually are, just because I'm still at home looking for a job, but hopefully once my life is figured out they won't be as stressing on me. I'm definitely closer to my mom.
My parents got married when my mom was 16 and my dad was 21. I may have caused said marriage. They divorced when I was 8. I am much closer with my mom and rarely talk to my dad....his choice.
I have a strange relationship with him. But my mom makes up for it 200 times over
