Gay Pride

There's been a lot of talk about gay marriage since Miss California, Carrie Prejean answered Perez Hilton's question about gay marriage unfavorably this week.

In my home state of Iowa, same sex marriage was recently legalized, becoming the third out of now four states to legalize it Let's just say there has been a lot of heated debates.

Being deep in the Midwest, and gay marriage being such, a well, "coastal" thing, I am very very proud to be an Iowan right now. Although, not everyone feels the way I do. Many strongly disagree with the decision.

To me, love is love. If you love someone you should be able to get married regardless of sex. I am definitely in favor of equal rights for homosexuals.

Does that mean I personally agree with it? No, it doesn't. It means I am a Christian and believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Although with that being said, I am a Christian and I am not allowed to judge others.

If two people want to get married, they should be able to. If you disagree, you don't have to be the one to marry them, or attend the ceremony. I don't see how this affects anybody else. Some say it is a threat to the institution of marriage, marriage is meant for procreation, it is not a good environment to raise children in, or it is immoral.

To all this, I say, rubbish!

Honestly, I think people are just not comfortable with it. I'll admit, I still get a little squeamish if I see a same sex couple kissing. But, their love and devotion for each other is definitely not something to get squeamish about. It's something to be admired and something to someday hope for in our own lives.

Bottom line, my personal opinion is that same sex marriage is not right but I am much more in favor of equal rights for all. And, that includes homosexual couples.

Hey Amber.

I am pretty much like you. I live in Montreal where gay marriage is legal and has been for many years and I fully support the fact that gays and lesbians deserve equal rights as same sex couples.

I don't get squeamish when I see two men or two women kissing, I kind of find it digusting for anyone to be making out in public. I don't care if a couple pecks one another or holds hands but full out making out is just disrespectful. Please keep it to the bedroom.

I believe that love is love and you can't really control who you fall in love with. If you find someone you have a connection with then more power to you regardless of race, religion, or sex.

BTW: Totally off topic but are you on Facebook's Networked Blogs?

I couldn't agree with you more.

There are so many more important things that the government and the population could be putting their time and effort into. I just don't understand why people even care what other people do! It doesn't effect me at all, so I don't care if gay people want to get married!!

Hey Jenny, no I'm not, but I will look it up! :)

What I thought was unfair was that she expressed HER opinion on how she felt about same sex marriage. She say it was good that people had a choice. I think she got a bad rap. I don't agree with her opinion but she had the right to feel that way.

I live in San Francisco and it was a sad day when Prop 8 passed here because it was so close. Gay or straight you are a human and you deserve the same rights. I do hope that one day (soon!) this won't be an issue anymore.

Totally off topic (but that's me!) but I love your new butterfly background!!!!!!

How did you do it?

And back on topic, yes, everyone has a right to be able to get married and have all the rights that "straight" people have. Gay, straight, I don't care--I say if you want to get married, then you should be able to. It doesn't hurt or affect anyone else.

Live & let live. I love my gay friends!

Oh, I went to cutest blog on the block and changed my background to the honey bees.

But I still need to tweak it somewhat--I am not loving that Pepto Bismol pink at the top of my page.

Tinkering with the colors....

I still think your butterflies are the best.

p.s. I feel like a Copy Cat.

I hope this does not border on plagiarism.

You just always have the best ideas!!!

I have a friend who used to buy the same purse, shoes, even same car as me and after awhile, even though we are still friends, I got seriously annoyed.

So tell me if I am becoming THAT friend.

Awww, thanks Lesli! No, you're not becoming THAT friend! LOL! Don't worry one bit!! :)

My cousin actually went to college with Lauren and apprently they dropped her so that she could go onto bigger and better things because the director envisioned her somewhere else.

What a great, honest post. My motto has always been Love is Love as well, and I'm so happy Iowa got on the bandwagon :-)

I like your honesty here on a tough subject. I also like that Miss California was honest, and it sucks that she got such bad press on an opinion question that she answered honestly. Wow, I think that's enough use of the word "honest." I should quit typing now.

Hi Amber! I saw a comment you left somewhere and your little picture with the comment was so captivating I had to come over and say hi. I love this post. I am a Christian and I feel much the same way. I don't know if I would be brave enough to write about it on my blog since it might give my Mommy a heart attack : (. I love when Christians are real and genuine and judgement free! Hope you have a wonderful day!

That's an awesome point of view. If only everyone could think like that.
