"Happy" weight

Wow, Wednesday already? Really?? Whew...

I have a confession to make.

My diet has consisted of crap lately. Total crap. Yesterday I had Chick-fil-A for lunch annnnd Chipotle for dinner. I'm not even going to tell you what I had for breakfast.

Between everything going on right now I am making the easier choices instead of what's better for me.

One of the girls on my staff whom I am very close to shared some amazing news about her and her husband and I was so excited for her I suggested we go to lunch together. Instead of choosing the healthier options the food court offers (which really isn't much... A modified Wendy's salad, perhaps) I chose waffle fries and a chicken sandwich. Chick-fil-A isn't terrible, but it's definitely not healthy! Then, that night Nick and I had plans to hang out and he said he would stop and get dinner and asked if Chipotle sounded good. What was I supposed to say? I suppose instead of the 3 lb burritio I could have gotten something else without a high calorie flour shell. Thennnnnn.... about an hour after we ate dinner he decides he wants ice cream. Off to Dairy Queen we go!

Sigh.

I know this is normal for new relationships but I have gained 5 lbs in the past month. FIVE!

That is a lot for my frame and only being a little over five feet tall.

Do you gain "happy" weight when in a new relationship? What kind of tricks do you have to avoid it? If you're a busy student what kinds of food do you like to pack when you're on the go?

I pack 100 calorie packs, granola bars (not the chocolate kind!), and fruit cups (packed in water) when I'm on the go. My only tips for eating out are try to get the best thing on the menu or if you know you might be eating out for dinner then try to eat good the rest of the day. :)

It seems like it's kind of the 'norm' to put on a few lbs in the beginning since you are eating out more, drinking more wine, etc. For me, I try to maintain my exercise schedule and continue to make that a priority... otherwise it gets out of control pretty quickly for me!

When I was a student, I sort of lived on those microwave meals as there was a microwave on campus where i could heat up meals before class. And microwave pop corn, too...

I think it's normal to gain weight when you're in a relationship period. My weight has yo-yo'ed 5 pounds over the last 2 years depending on if me and Eric are living together or not! Lol.

Just take it one meal at a time. So yesterday sucked? Eat better today! And just because you had a crappy lunch or dinner don't get in the mindest "This week or day is shot so I might as well keep eating crap". Look at EACH MEAL separately :)

I gained "happy" weight after we were engaged. Before I knew it I packed on 30 pounds and I worked my butt off to lose the weight. I catch myself making bad choices, but since I weigh myself fairly often, I can correct the problem right away. It is hard to always eat healthy..I struggle with it everyday. I would suggest asking your new man to go for a bike ride or eating in to keep yourself on track. If I know I am going out to eat for dinner, I eat pretty healthy the rest of the day. Hope this helps.

I ate less when I first got with my husband but after we were married I gained 65 pounds over 5 years. Gross. Be careful, all I can say is it is a lot easier to gain than to lose. I lost 20 pounds in 3 months by cutting out diet soda completely, having dinner before 6pm, and getting my 8 hours. I have fallen into old habits but the weight hasn't come back in a year. There is some chemical in diet soda that increases your appetite so my new rule is regular soda for a treat at the movie theater. Sweet and Salty nut bars (Nature Valley I think?) and Ritz Crackerfuls (only 1) are two snacks that actually keep me feeling full for quite awhile. ;)

Ugh, I was at a great weight before meeting my old boyfriend and over the course of our 4 yr relationship, I gained A LOT of yucky weight. I'm still trying to get rid of it!

I'm not a student but I AM busy . . . I pack myself some healthy snacks every day, like apples and natural yogurt to snack on. If I must have chocolate I try to make it a little mini bar.

That being said, yesterday I had a cheeseburger for lunch then went out for dinner with my sister. So I'm not exactly an expert . . .

I've been doing the same things recently when it comes to my eating. I need to get healthier about it!

When my hubby and I first started dating we went out to eat a LOT...and my body definitely showed it!

Now we cook at home and try to eat pretty healthy!

I take Lean Cuisines to work and sometimes will snack on those 100 calorie snacks. Fruit is always good and drinking a lot of water is great!

I think the trick is to choose the healthiest option or modify something to make it a bit more healthy. Instead of fried whatever, choose grilled, baked, or sauteed. If your only choice is a sandwich, choose the healthies option and then may only use one piece of the bun/bread. New relationships are fun and exciting, but I DO think there is a way to make healthier (even if they aren't 100% healthy) choices. As for daily life, I tend to eat healthy during the week and the weekends are my splurge days. It seems to balance itself well, although I know this method won't work for everyone. No matter what, you always have to have a cheat day or at least a cheat meal. Otherwise, it doesn't really work long-term.

Good luck and I'm so happy this new relationship is so fun and exciting for you. :)

Oddly, I lost weight when hubs and I started dating. That had to do with a lot of drinking and puking, though. (Whoops!)

However, I now feel your pain since I am eating everything in sight these days. Even though I'm pregnant, I'm still supposed to watch my carbs!

IT SUCKS. I only want to watch carbs as they go from my hand to my mouth. I.love.bread.

I don't know how I could mange working in a mall with access to a food court everyday. I do try to stay away from fast food for my lunch, and in general I do pretty good. I normally wind up at Smoothie King one a week, or eat at Whole Foods' salad bar which isn't too far from where I work.
