Perfectly, perfect weekend

I had one of those weekends where I just felt happy and content. A weekend where I was doing exactly what I wanted to do and not what other people wanted to do. It felt awesome!

Friday after I left work around 4:30, I ran home, picked up my sister and we headed to my parents house for dinner. My parents live really close to us, living just on the other side of town. In Des Moines, that does not mean far! They are also the type that leave a standing invitation for dinner, and we my mom said she ordered pizza I could not resist! We ate pizza, chatted for a bit, and then my sister (Steph) and I went shopping for a little bit. The next day we were going to Star 102.5's Summer All Star Concert, which is an all day event and Steph wanted a new tank top and shorts to wear. We ended up at Old Navy and she found an adorable outfit for practically dirt cheap. I seriously think my entire wardrobe comes from Old Navy, Gap and Kohl's. I love their clothes and their prices are reasonable. Score and score. :)

Also, while shopping I decided to splurge and buy some Toms. I know I am late to this party (as I usually am with trends!) but, I have been wanting a pair of cute shoes that are good for walking, that aren't sneakers. As much as I love my Asics, I love them for running, not for everyday running around town. I'm planning on wearing the Toms next week in DC, so hopefully I can break them in by the weekend... Wish me luck? I wore them the entire weekend, and I think I got a great start at breaking them in.

Saturday morning I got up early, snuck in a quick 2 mile run and then we headed to Water Works park for the concert. I have never been to a concert there, and I have to say... I wasn't that impressed. I'll get to that later though. What did impress me was the fun lineup! At the show we had some of my favorites, including Train and Mat Kearney! They were both awesome, and honestly, the reason I chose to go to this one! The other acts were The Spazmatics (an 80s cover band), Green River Ordinance (I liked them!), Hanson (Mmmmbop!), Neon Trees (they were fun!), and Adam Lambert. My favorites were by far Mat Kearney and Train, though! Mat Kearney came out into the crowd and sang, it was awesome! Train legitimately had a wedding onstage after they sang "Marry Me". It was kinda cool! The entire time I couldn't help but think how pissed off my mom would be if one of us did that though! Haha!

Unfortunately, I did not get any pictures from the last half of the day because my phone died. Too much playing on my phone in between acts. I should have left it alone like I planned to, but my addiction is just too strong I guess. Below is a picture of the bride and groom with the lead singer and drummer.

So, what didn't impress me about the concert? The organization. It took FOREVER to get into the park. Then once we got into the park, there wasn't water available (unless you wanted to pay 3$ for a small bottle). Now, this is pretty typical but I had tweeted at Star 102.5 and asked them about availability of water. They said that there was a trough at the medical tent. I thought, ok cool. That is awesome. We go to the medical tent and there was not a trough. There was bottled water for people that got deyhydrated. I tweeted back at Star and they came back with "Well, it's like at Adventureland where you have to pay for water..." Ummm, really, Star? No, no it's not. Adventureland (a local amusement park) has water fountains. Nice try, though! We had a pretty fun time making fun of them the rest of the day... I see their point, but I hate when people answer questions when they don't really know the answer.

I had a good time at the concert, but I think it would take some pretty big acts to get me back. I hated that we couldn't leave the park and come back and that we couldn't bring in our own water. Even though it ended up cooling off in the late afternoon, the morning and early afternoon was humid and hot. I think I got spoiled at 80/35, where water was available and we could come and go as we pleased with a wristband.

On Sunday, I slept until I woke up naturally (which was around 9am) and it felt amazing. I love not having to get up to an alarm screeching. I got in a 4 mile run, which I was really proud of and then I spent the rest of the day studying, doing laundry and running a few errands. All in all it was a really great weekend!

What does your perfect weekend look like?

Mat Kearney came down into the crowd when I saw him live. He was so close to me, I almost could have touched him. I have a huge crush on him so was so excited when he did that! That is too bad the concert was so poorly organized! That is dangerous to not have water widely available (and for free) when it's so hot like that!

A perfect weekend would look like mine last weekend! It started with grilling, then I ran 12 miles with my group on Saturday and headed to the lake where I was outside nonstop and got to see my niece and nephews!!

I am way too old for all day concerts like that. Glad you still have that much stamina! and I loved living close to my parents. We lived about 6 miles away from them until we moved to NC back in 2009.

I had a pretty perfect weekend last weekend too! We laid out by the pool all day on Saturday and Sunday we went on a double-date with our friends - hiking and golfing!

I'm glad you like your TOMS so much! I'm obsessed and plan to buy a third pair in the fall :)

I HATE when venues charge an arm and a leg for water. It is a safety thing. (Says the girl who was dehydrated at comerica park all through the buffett concert). It was waaay too much and tooo long a line for a bottle of water. I feel as though even if venues charged a dollar for water they would still make a profit and it would be safer for EVERYONE.

Wow, I am jealous that you got to see Mat Kearney! That water thing is annoying! I hate feeling exploited!

I had a fabulous weekend last weekend too - two yoga classes, two coffee dates, hanging out with friends, time with Ben and some me time - I'm actually amazed I was able to squeeze it all in!

P.S. Even if you haven't broken your TOMS in, we won't be parked far from where we'll be walking in D.C. - you can always take them off on the way home. :)

After the disaster that was Lazerfest 2010, I refuse to go to outdoor concerts. Too long of lines to get in, for food, for water, to use the disgusting port-a-potties, etc. I'll spend twice as to go to an indoor concert. Sad since all the good acts seem to be outdoors lately. Rockfest sounds so good but no way.
Isn't sleeping in and waking up naturally the best feeling? Glad you had a good weekend.

I have yet to buy a pair of TOMS but I keep eyeing them in the store. Love the ones you got!
