Book review catch up!

Hola, readers! How have you all been? I took an unexpected hiatus from the blogosphere, but have no fear, I am back!

During my time away I've read a couple of good books.

Sweet Little Lies by Lauren Conrad
From Amazon: Jane Roberts was the average girl next door until she and her best friend, Scarlett Harp, landed their own reality show, L.A. Candy. Now the girls have an all-access pass to Hollywood's hottest everything. But there's more to life on camera than just parties and shopping..
When racy photos of Jane are leaked to the press, she finds herself at the center of a tabloid scandal. She turns to her co-star Madison Parker for help, unaware that Madison is scheming behind the scenes. She might be Jane's shoulder to cry on, but does Madison really have Jane's back?
Scarlett's working on a scandal of her own. She's fallen for someone who's strictly off-limits—which means Scarlett has a big secret to keep . . . from the L.A. Candy cameras, the paparazzi staking out her apartment, even from her best friend.
Of course, nothing stays secret for long for the stars of the newest hit TV series, and all this drama couldn't be better for ratings. But can Jane survive another season in the spotlight?
In television star Lauren Conrad's dishy, entertaining novel about young Hollywood, the lies are only as sweet as the people tell-ing them.

I enjoyed Lauren Conrad's first book, L.A. Candy so I knew I would like this too. If you're craving something light and fluffy and were ever a fan of The Hills you will probably like this book too!

House Rules by Jodi Picoult
From Jodi Picoult's website: HOUSE RULES is about Jacob Hunt, a teenage boy with Asperger’s Syndrome. He’s hopeless at reading social cues or expressing himself well to others, and like many kids with AS, Jacob has a special focus on one subject – in his case, forensic analysis. He’s always showing up at crime scenes, thanks to the police scanner he keeps in his room, and telling the cops what they need to do…and he’s usually right. But then one day his tutor is found dead, and the police come to question him. All of the hallmark behaviors of Asperger’s – not looking someone in the eye, stimulatory tics and twitches, inappropriate affect – can look a heck of a lot like guilt to law enforcement personnel -- and suddenly, Jacob finds himself accused of murder. HOUSE RULES looks at what it means to be different in our society, how autism affects a family, and how our legal system works well for people who communicate a certain way – but lousy for those who don’t.

I have been a huge fan of Jodi Picoult for a couple years now and I was really looking forward House Rules since the moment I finished Handle With Care last year. What I love about Picoult's book are how much I take away from them. I always learn something new and I always walk away with a better educated opinion on a controversial subject. My only complaint was that the end didn't have the twist I was hoping for. I guessed what really happened early on in the book and I ended up being right. I wanted to be wrong! I love it when Picoult's books throw me a curveball that I wasn't expecting.

Last year I went to my first book signing and had Handle With Care signed. I also met Lesli for the first time! This year we decided we had to go again! So, we met up for the day and listened to Jodi do a reading from House Rules and take questions from the audience. It was so interesting! She is such a neat person and an awesome speaker. She was very candid while taking questions and seemed to answer every question honestly and passionately. I definitely want to try and make it to more author events like this one!

So, that's what I've been burying my nose in, what have you been reading?

I LOVE Jodi Piccoult! I kind of just discovered how much I love her recently. But it is like you said- I always learn something from her books and end up discussing the topic of the books with friends. Just finished Nineteen Minutes and can't wait to start a new one.

I actually just bought a copy of L.A. Candy yesterday and I can't wait to read.

And as shocking as this may be, I've never actually read a Jodi Picoult novel!
