Mailbox Monday

I have been on a bit of a book buying and borrowing spree these days ... with only 4 more days of summer left before I have to report back to work, there is no way I will finish them all. Somehow this does not stop me from taking them all home though ...

From the library, I have borrowed:

Dollbaby by Laura Lane McNeal (reading now - so far it is starting out great!)

Be Fruitful by Victoria Maizes - this is a book about fertility and getting pregnant. We do not have plans for anytime soon, but I figure you can never be too prepared!

The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller - a book about igniting the love of reading in children. This has come with amazing recommendations, so I am hoping I can at least skim through it this week!

Purchased:

Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman - I have watched the show (it is sooooo good!) and we decided to read the book for book club. The wait was too long at the library, so I purchased it from Target. I can't wait to read it!

If I Stay by Gayle Forman- the movie previews have been very intriguing lately for this story, so I just had to try and pick up the book before I see the movie! It's a YA book, and the type is pretty large, so it should be a fast read. Luckily, it was only $7 at Target.

The Romantics by Galt Niederhoffer - I loved the movie with Katie Holmes and when I spied this at Half Price Books and noticed the synopsis had some differences from the movie, I just had to pick it up.

The Dressmaker by Posie Graeme-Evans - total impulse buy. I have been craving some historical fiction and this one sounded pretty good.

This past week I also drove the 3 1/2 hours up to Minneapolis/St. Paul to catch a reading by Deborah Harkness, author of The Discovery of Witches! She just released the last book in the trilogy, and I am so excited to have all my books signed by her now!

Hearing her speak was a treat, and I am so glad I went! I am always blown away by how amazing authors are in person and how interesting they are. I never regret making the trip (I have yet to attend an event in Des Moines, because they rarely come here!)

I also spent some time shopping in the Cities and got some supplies for my classroom and new shoes for this school year!

My last full week of summer was very "bookish" but it was perfect! For my last four days for summer I have lots of plans ... I want to deep clean my car, paint the guest bathroom, organize our pantry (Bill is building me a new one out of a strange closet in our kitchen), organize Bill's closet, organize my closet (they are both a disaster) and get in some bike riding and book reading! Wish me luck ...

What books did you bring home this week? What are you reading right now?

I usually have to read the books before the movies/shows because they are nothing alike. Be sure to write about how the Orange book is cause I'm curious - I also didn't know that it was a book :)

I am reading Don't Try to Find me by Holly Brown. I have 3 books left from my giant pile from the library last month and far too many wishes. The summer just goes by so fast.

It was so great to see you last week! I am glad that it worked out for you to stay with me and spend a little bit of time with Phil and I that night! You are so good about seeking out author events!

I haven't bought any books lately but I did borrow "Everything I Never Told You" at the library yesterday, and I have 2 other library books, plus some ebooks, like The Vacationers. I haven't had much free time in the evenings lately so I kind of doubt I am going to read everything before it is due! #firstworldproblem

I hope your last couple of days of summer break have been great and productive. I can't believe it's back to school time already!

If you're looking for other pre-baby books I'd recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility. I didn't read it cover to cover, but read pieces of it and found it really helpful. Although I never mentioned it on the blog, since I wasn't quite ready to tell people we were getting ready to try, but I guess I'm at the point where I can't hide it anymore!

And I haven't read If I Stay yet, but I'm already a little in love with it just from the trailers. Seriously I can't remember the last time I trailer has got me to cry like these ones have.

And finally, I haven't read The Dressmaker, but I have heard great things about it. Although I have read a few other books by Posie Graeme-Evans and do remember enjoying them.

Awesome that you met Deborah! I'm reading Butternut Summer, the 2nd book in a trilogy that i started earlier this year. It takes place in Minnesota and it's a lovely read with some good character development this go-round (and is better than the first, at least in terms of the writing).

I have a book buying addiction (obsession?) myself!
