Remember me?

Heeeeyyyyy! How are you guys? Are there any of you left?? ;)

I'm still here and kickin' although, I am not kicking very hard. I'm exhausted and that is a little scary because it is ONLY the beginning of October. I have 2.5 more months of this to go. Of course some weeks are worse than others, and last week was baaaad. This week has been okay so far. I'm hoping that I can get a little caught up in the next week or so. I'm not behind. I'm just right on time and doing pretty much everything that is due (for school and sometimes work) the night before or the day of. I like to be a bit more ahead than that!

Anway! On to what is going on with me... And, yeah it will be in bullet format.
  • I am still training for the half marathon, which is on October 21st. I'm a little concerned about WHY I am doing it and even today while I was doing my 10 mile long run I was questioning my motives and unsure why. A good friend of mine had a long talk with me on Sunday (because I skipped/rescheduled my long run) about my training and how bad I am doing at it. The talk helped... but I'm still unsure if I really like this season of training. In fact, no, I don't know why I just typed that. I am not enjoying this season of training. I'm just too damn busy. It's been really difficult prioritizing. After this season I am going to have to start paring down my goals and think of something smaller to work towards. Maybe improving my 5K time? Or a yoga challenge? Suggestions?
  • Speaking of running. Color Run is this weekend! I am so excited!!! We registered back in June or July and it feels like so long ago! I cannot wait to share the experience and post pictures!
  • Last week we had our 17th Books 'n Bars meeting! I've really slacked with keeping the Books 'n Bars updates current, but it is still going strong!
  • This weekend one of my friends from grad school is having a "Heathers" brunch at her house and I'm so excited for this time with some of my new favorite people! She's having bloody mary's and mimosas and we're watching Heathers (which I have never seen. Don't shoot me.) I can't wait!
So... that is pretty much it with me! I'm still surviving grad school, I'm still training for the half and I'm trying to keep my head above water.

How are you doing? What's new with you in your life?

It can be so hard to train for a race when you're super busy! I made the mistake of training for a half during hte fall of my fourth year of college and I can remember getting up at 4 to run some days! Good job keeping at it though!

I can totally understand why you feel like you do about half marathon training. Training for a race like that is a huge time commitment and when you are already spread thin, it's especially hard and can become something you dread/don't enjoy. Which is when it is time to take a step back and re-assess what you have time for. I had to do that last spring when studyign for the CFA. I wanted to do a half but had to recongize that I simply did not have the time to do that and study. Sucks to have to take a step back from things, but it's necessary sometimes!

I am doing well right now, but would be lying if I said I am not very stressed out right now. I am traveling A LOT. I went to pick up my BM dress last night at a friend's and she was like - whoa, sit down for a bit, you are going like a 1,000 miles per hour. Which was true. I am hoping for a quieter season soon as before I know it, CFA studying will begin and I need a calm phase before that starts!!

Oh goodness, I can't even imagine training for a half during grad school! I don't think I would have made it! Good luck!

I've never heard of Heather's, so don't feel bad about never seeing it!

I can't say anything is new or excited in my life, other than a billion baby-related things, lol. I'm a boring person these days.

Good luck at the color run! I'm doing a yoga challenge right now, hitting the mat 300 days this year in an Ashtanga primary series practice. It's surprisingly fun.

I haven't seen Heather either, so you're not the only one.

And as for running, I don't work out, like pretty much ever. But I always seem to be reading other bloggers running marathons and it makes me want to do it, except maybe just run half a marathon instead because that's doable. Except I know that even a half marathon isn't doable for me, even if it's only because I'm not willing to put worth the effort. But I wish I was, and reading running posts does inspire me, at least in theory.

I tried training for a half-marathon during my last semester of undergrad and wound up with shingles. So be careful and take care of yourself, love! It's hard to do something as mentally tough as training for a half-marathon when you are already spread so thin by school & work commitments. But 10/21 is right around the corner and soon you can take it off your plate. (I hope this is encouraging and not AHHH! 10/21 IS ALMOST HEEERE!)

Good luck with training I know how a busy schedule can interfere with a training regimen! I'm alright.....much happening as I've re-entered the blogosphere after an almost two year haitus...blog says it all!

Wow, Heathers? I haven't seen that in ages. I mean maybe 20 years. When did it come out; maybe it wasn't THAT long ago!

You have to prioritize and clearly grad school is more important right now. However, I am not saying you should give up fitness at all, so that is the hardest part, figuring it all out and seeing how/if it meshes! Perhaps it's a good time to really perfect your 10k time. Or maybe you should look into Run Less, Run Faster?

My brother is having the same problem; he signed up for a Half right in the middle of harvest, when he is working 12 - 14 hour days (physically hard ones). But sometimes, you have to say, like Lisa said in one of her recent posts, if not now, when? However, you don't want to cause too much additional stress! You will find your balance though; I know it.
