Necessary Meltdowns

Last week was a really long week. I had a near meltdown on Friday night when I logged into the chatroom for a scheduled (and required) chat with my group. (Yes, it was scheduled on a Friday night. Don't ask.)

I logged in right on time, but I was still the last one there, and by that time responsibilities were doled out and I got stuck with taking notes and turning them into our prof. I was kind of annoyed because I had a 10 page paper due on Saturday to put together (the paper was in bits and pieces and basically outlined) and stuff to finish for this online class that was due on Sunday night. I was a sport though.

I'm not a fan of these online chats. It is hard to completely understand what people mean without hearing their tone of voice and they're just not that beneficial to me. I would rather post discussions like those on a discussion board and reply on my own time.

Luckily, after the chat was done, and the notes were typed up and turned in, I was feeling much calmer. Sometimes I just need the freak-out moment, ya know? By Saturday afternoon I had my paper put together and I was ready to proofread it the rest of the day and then turn it in by midnight.

Did you know I'm a procrastinator? It's a terrible disease. I'm trying to get better. Really.

So, now I am down from four summer classes to just one. I finished the first three successfully with few meltdowns and now I just have two more sections of this last online class to finish up then I will be done with the summer semester and will have a chance to relax until fall semester starts on August 27th.

I'm so ready for this down time and I'm really looking forward to a bunch of fun stuff coming up.

Did you take summer classes? What are you looking forward to during the last half of the summer?

  1. Ugh, that chat requirement does sound annoying. We all need to have our little freak outs every now and then. I had plenty in grad school - mostly due to group projects where i wasn't sure if the other members were going to turn in their stuff on time as many would wait until THE last minute, which made me totally panic.

I am glad you had a nice break coming up! It's good to have a break so you can recharge your battery for the fall semester. I took summer school in grad school. It was tough as the classes tended to be intense.

  2. I hate group projects. My district is doing a new thing at the high school which basically is all group projects and I would NEVER have been successful in it. Ughh, I shudder at thinking about how pissy I'd be at everyone, ALL THE TIME!

  4. I took 2 in-person summer classes after my second year of law school. I would work from 9-5 then sit in class from 5:30-9 every night. Excruciating. But it was worth it to be able to take only 12 credits my final semester, ha!

  5. I haaaated group chats when I was in college. I much prefer discussions! I feel people just try to talk over others and it's just annoying.

I took summer classes but never more than 2 and those were just undergrad classes. Grad classes? Eep! Glad you're going to have some time off school for a bit coming up! You totally deserve it. :)

  6. I am not a fan of group chats in online classes either- and I do LOVE online classes but like you said I prefer the discussions when you can respond in your own time (and read only the ones that are good!). I am taking two online classes this summer and they both finish this week which means I should probably be doing work for them right now, oops. I am not a procrastinator but I'm finding myself becoming one in these classes because my summer has just been busy so far!
