Blog friends are simply, friends.

At some point my "blogger friends" have turned into "friends" and, you know what? That's what they are! Sometimes I still slip and say "blogger friends" but that really is an insult, because they are so much more than that.

I may not have met some of these girls in person, but that doesn't make us fake friends. I count people like Nora, Mandy and Stephany as friends that I know someday I will meet and share coffee and conversation with!

This past weekend I traveled via Megabus (review coming soon) to Chicago and finally spent some quality time with one of my favorite bloggers - Becky!

Lisa, Becky, Lesli and I all met in Chicago for a weekend getaway consisting of eating, talking, reading and exploring a fabulous city in the midwest! Lesli also brought a friend, whom I have met on a couple occasions, who was absolutely lovely! Meeting friends in person for the first time, plus making a new lifelong friend? Amazing! Couldn't ask for more.

This weekend really couldn't have been more lovely. We ate lots of yummy food, which included Italian, Mexican twice, and Thai. We watched the Globes together and gave each other manicures. We toured the Frank Lloyd Wright home in Oak Park (I will review that in a separate post - watch for it!). And we spent one afternoon just relaxing, reading and chatting at a downtown Barnes & Noble. Overall, time went way too fast and by the time Monday rolled around, I was in awe.

Now that I have been on two of these "blogger weekends" I am so hooked and am counting down the days when I can see these ladies again and also spend another weekend with bloggers. Hopefully I can make something happen a couple more times this year.

Do you tend to call your online friends "Twitter friends" or "blogging friends"? Or are they simply friends to you?

  1. It depends if I've met them or not. If they are someone I only know from online, then I usually say "a blog friend" or a "diabetes friend" or something. If I've met them, they instantly become just a friend, regardless of how I met them or how often I see them. But sometimes it helps because if I refer to Amber, and Erik goes, "Who's that?" it makes more sense to say "A blogging friend" so that he doesn't try to figure out how I know you or if he's met them!

  2. I have not met anyone in RL that I have met through blogging, but I do care/wonder and genuinely support a core group of women (you included!) and no one outside of the blogging world understands...except hubs, because he said blogging has made me want to be a better person. I am truly inspired by so many people on here, and so yes, I consider them friends. :) LOVE bloggyland!!

  3. The friends I've met trough blogging are my absolute life long friends. Over the past few years, my blog friends turned IRL friends (even if I haven't met them yet)have gotten me through some hard times and I turn to them more often than the friends I've had since childhood. These friendships are amazing and definitely transcend time and distance.

I cannot wait to meet you IRL one day but I do count you among my nearest and dearest!

  4. I just say "friends" now and rarely say "blog friend" anymore. Blogger girls weekends are my absolutely FAVOURITE thing ever!!! I loved the three weekends I spent with my (blogger) friends in 2011 and am hoping to squeeze in at least 1 or 2 more in 2012!

So glad you ladies had such a great weekend, I knew you would :)

  5. Sounds like a great trip! I wish I could meet some of my blogger friends, but none of them live anywhere near me :0(

How did you like the megabus? I remember on twitter you were worried about sitting up top.

  6. I tend to flip-flop between "blogging friend" and "girl I know" more than I use the actual term "friend." Maybe it's because I actually haven't met too many blog-friends in person?

I also use "girl I know" more with older people because they figure a blogging friend is some crazy chat room person that may be a serial killer, lol!

  7. I rarely use the phrase 'blog friends' anymore! I used to, but now the relationships i have formed with fellow bloggers (like you) have transcended that definition! I just consider you girls my friends!

Our Chicago weekend was so much fun! Hopefully we can make DC work this fall!

  10. What a fabulous picture! :)

Totally agree! There are a lot of blogger friends who I just refer to as their name now (or...their twitter handle if I'm talking to Ben - ha!), and there are women in my life now I can't imagine not being there. It's crazy to think I would have never met them if not for blogging.

October in D.C. baby - let's make it happen!

  11. I often still refer to people as "blog friends," but I don't mean that they are any less my friends than people I met elsewhere. In fact, I'm probably closer to them than a lot of my other friends.

  12. I still say "blog friends", especially when talking to my "IRL" friends, but really, they are just friends. I think of it as saying something like "these are my college friends", "these are my work friends", "these are my blog friends". It doesn't mean I like them any less (actually more!), but it's just to clarify how I know someone.

  13. One of my blog fiends became my girlfriend, so I had to stop calling her a "blog friend." ;)

  14. I am glad you guys had a good time! I think that blogger meetups are so fun! I agree that a lot of bloggers are really good friends now, but I do still call them blog friends to people around me, becuase most of them don't understand how you can be friends with someone you have never met. But blog friends ARE my REAL friends!
