Grumpy McGrumpster...

Yep, that's me. Grumps. Grumpy. Crabby. Irritable. Negative Nancy. Moody. Snappy. They're all ME!

I have been so grumpy lately and unfortunately I tend to to take it out on the people I love the most.

Last night Nick and I started bowling on a league together and I cannot count the number of times I snapped at him. First, I was annoyed because the league started so late (9:45 pm) then I was annoyed because he didn't remind me to get cash to pay for it, then I was irritated because he kept saying in my ear, "don't be grumpy, smile."

Between some issues I have had going on at work and lots of preparing for two weeks with back to back tests and presentations I have just been sleep deprived and irritable!

I don't know what to do... but I know I need to do something to snap myself out of this funk. I was thinking of trying to get myself on a more structured schedule where I try to go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time everyday with the goal being walking or running in the morning. I know the natural endorphins from working out will boost my mood, but I am so horrible at getting up in the mornings I just don't think it will happen. I know I should at least try though! Working out in the evenings is really not an option for me... it just won't happen.

I need some sort of incentive program to get myself up! Maybe everytime I wake up and work out I put a $1 or two in a jar and buy myself something that I really want. Maybe the sticker program would work well for me... I know it did for Lesli (at least I think she did something like earning stickers...). Ahh, who knows. Maybe I just need a good vacation.

Have you ever been in a funk like this and how did you snap yourself out of it?

  1. I am currently in a funk too. You just have to make a schedule for yourself and remember funks dont last forever. If you have time, maybe you should take a day and take a staycation.

  2. it happens to everyone.. but for me, the best thing to do is to mix up my routine. even if that means getting up 30 minutes earlier or sitting somewhere else in the house for dinner. also, a nice run usually does the trick. and if that doesn't work..
    i buy new nice pair of shoes!! :D

  3. I was in a horrible funk like this a month or so ago and working out really did change it completely! I know the first few times will suck, but after that, your body will crave it and you will be in a positive mood all the time! It's crazy what being active does to your mind. Oh, and I love your money incentive. I would do that!

  4. You never know. I an the total opposite of a morning person yet I now go to the gym every tuesday and Thursday morning at 6:30 am. It is only because I have a friend going with me. When she can't go sometimes I say I will still go but I never do. But just knowing she is there waiting on me makes me go. I tried the money thing but it didn't work long. So now I have 3 week mini rewards. Like if I complete all the couch 2 5k runs for the first 3 weeks I get a pedicure. Which I really need for a wedding that weekend so I know if I don't I will have to go to the wedding with "dirty ho toes" as we like to call them with the polish all messed up. So that is a big motivation! Just find what works for you. And yes I agree a schedule really helps with getting out of a funk! Good luck! We're rooting for you!

  5. I think a reward system would be a good incentive! I know that if I work out in the morning it always helps lighten my mood.

  6. Ha ha! I am still doing stickers on my calendar. Every day I work out, I put a sticker on my Hello Kitty calendar in the kitchen--I love seeing the lovely rows of stickers marching across the calendar. I also have another calendar where I put a big X on the calendar if I walk 5 miles that day. I get up at 5:30 every morning to do either the treadmill or the elliptical. I swear it works. Am not even missing the extra sleep, but I do go to bed earlier than you do because I am OLD! :-)

  7. Oh my gosh, I so know what you mean!! I'm like this sometimes. For me, I just want to be alone. I sulk, I don't talk, and I complain. But after awhile, I miss people's company so I try to go out, I do little things for myself and I try to change my attitude. it's hard, I know, but you just have to try to get out of the funk! Good luck dear :-)
